PERSONAL NOTE
Composed in 1942 by Pablo Sorozabal, one of Spain`s most important composers of the last century.  Although this is one of his best compositions, the piece has been adapted only a couple of times in present days. Fortunately, director Ignacio García accepted the challenge to direct this complex operetta for the Teatro Colón of Bogotá in 2014 and then back in 2015 for a second season due to the success of the first one.
The set design is based on eastern European traveling circuses: the decay of a never stopping circus is the main esthetic element, but the elegance of the royalty is merged with the flamboyant circus to create a fantastic mix. Huge scenic gestures transform the stage form a circus tent to a royal palace within seconds. In design terms, the floor, the backing curtains, the moving jails, the pile of bags and the huge mirror were specifically chosen to represent different stages during the play.

Black is a reflection on how what we appear to be is only our mask. A reflection on how we can´t deny what we are meant to be.
